I am Amanda Marvin, MSW, LCSW, LCAS. I am a licensed social worker and a licensed addictions counselor. I have 9 years experience as a behavioral health clinician working in a community-based outpatient clinic. I enjoy helping people strive for health and healing while working towards positive growth. My areas of interest include, but are not limited to, counseling teens and adults who struggle with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, depression, anxiety, stress and trauma, parenting, relationships, and life transitions.
As a therapist, I believe that a trusting, collaborative partnership between a client and his or her therapist lies at the core of effective treatment. I work from the assumption that people are the experts on their own lives and that most of us are doing the best we can with the tools that we have available.
With that as the starting point, my initial goal is to listen, assess, and truly understand the strengths and challenges that each person possesses. I believe it is important to understand what is not working, but to also clearly understand the unique gifts and strengths of each individual in order to build on these strengths in our work together. Through the support and accountability of the therapeutic relationship, I am able to help generate awareness and assist clients in identifying patterns that are contributing to their challenges, and explore possible tools, ideas, and solutions that may decrease distress and improve overall functioning.
My method of treatment is to use a holistic approach that takes into account individuals’ biological, psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions. I serve as a means to help facilitate change using a strength-based eclectic approach, employing a combination of techniques within the frameworks of Person-Centered therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapies, Mindfulness, and Triple P-Positive Parenting Program. These approaches give me a framework to assist clients with learning new coping skills to help manage life’s twists and turns.
